Relate and Connect

I view therapy as an opportunity for positive change in one’s life. By examining your life goals, dreams, problems, and patterns it is possible to have a life of fulfillment. I often have people tell me that they want to “be happy.” I respond that life is kind of like Disneyland. We have to work hard to get there, we have to be patient and tolerant as we wait in long lines, we often get thirsty tired and hungry and sometimes settle for less than ideal and then, we get 60 seconds of “wheeeee.”

So, when we have happiness as a life goal, we are most often bound to fall short and be disappointed. I say, perhaps the goal should be contentment. There is satisfaction and achievement in working hard, in being patient and tolerant. When we think of options other than the ideal, we are being creative and resourceful and often find something interesting we may have otherwise missed. When we are thirsty, hungry and tired, we have the opportunity to be appreciative and grateful for some of life’s simplicity: the refreshing taste of a cold drink or a shady spot to sit. A fulfilled life consists of being satisfied with who we are and where we are at the present time.

In my practice, I work with adults, adolescents, couples and families to help align them with the quality of life, relationships, and experiences that they want to have. I value truth, growth, awareness and vulnerability. We are all discovering what it is to be human. I too, am involved in the process of “being human” and I welcome you to share your process of “being human” with me.
